The Critérium du Dauphiné is one of France's most prestigious stage races and a warmup event for the Tour de France - you can see the event pass through the Alps on the following dates:

The 2017 route stages:

  • Stage 1 Sunday 4th June - St Etienne - 170km
  • Stage 2 Monday 5th June - Saint-Chamond / Arlanc 171 km
  • Stage 3 Tuesday 6th June - Le Chambon-sur-Lignon / Tullins 184 km
  • Stage 4 (Individual time trial) Wednesday 7th June - La Tour-du-Pin / Bourgoin-Jallieu 23.5 km
  • Stage 5 Thursday 8th June - La Tour-de-Salvagny / Mâcon 175 km
  • Stage 6 Friday 9th June - Parc des Oiseaux - Villars-les-Dombes / La Motte-Servolex 145.5 km
  • Stage 7 Saturday 10th June - Aoste / Alpe d'Huez 167.5 km
  • Stage 8 Sunday 11th June - Albertville / Plateau de Solaison 115 km

Alpe d'Huez hosts a wide range of events throughout the year. In the winter, you can expect motor racing on ice, comedy festivals, ski races and various live music gigs. During the summer months, the focus turns to cycling with the Tour de France usually passing through town. The Megavalanche, a mass-start mountain bike race that draws thousands of MTB fans from around the world, takes place in July.
