Ski ballet is back and Alpe d'Huez is jumping on the trend

Next season, ski ballet lessons will be available at a few of the ski schools in Alpe d'Huez. The sport, popular in the 1970s and 80s, has recently gone viral thanks to Lindsey Vonn's video dancing on the slopes with Jonny Moseley.

Part of the professional freestyle competitions back in the 70s and 80s and an official FIS and Olympic discipline until 2000, ski ballet's most spectacular discipline was the pair ballet in which two people performed tricks including synchronised jumps, spins and lifts.

Upcoming Events

Alpe d'Huez hosts a wide range of events throughout the year. In the winter, you can expect motor racing on ice, comedy festivals, ski races and various live music gigs. During the summer months, the focus turns to cycling with the Tour de France usually passing through town. The Megavalanche, a mass-start mountain bike race that draws thousands of MTB fans from around the world, takes place in July.
