How hard can it be to find lunch in Alpe d'Huez I asked myself? I had a look in several restaurants around 2pm who told me they weren't serving food, so I was relieved when I finally found Pizza Pinocchio (which thankfully had a bigger menu than most of the others I'd seen too) They had a wide range of salads, pizzas, pasta, meats and all the traditional savoyard to choose from.

It's a very unpretentious looking place from the outside but don't let that put you off. The service was great and I was welcomed with a "of course we're serving food!" rather than the blunt "non" that I'd received in the other restaurants I'd tried before.

The food was all freshly prepared - my salad starter had freshly cooked lardons and a poached egg. This made a nice change from a lot of restaurants who serve as many ingredients as possible pre-cooked. For my main course I chose a delicious pasta carbonara (see pic) with really creamy sauce, fresh bacon and raw egg yoke - absolutely perfect.

My 2 course lunch was under 20 euros and I can safely say it was the best lunches I've had in a long time! 10/10
