Pierre Vaultier has taken a gold medal this morning in the Boardercross at Rosa Khutor, bringing the French total of gold medals to 3 and their overall medals total up to 7.

Pierre hails from Briançon and was recovering from an ACL injury that he sustained in December, although you wouldn't have been able to tell watching the competition. He's previously won three boardercross world cups in 2008, 2010 and 2012.

He beat the Russian favourite Nikolay Olyunin who took second, and American Alex Diebold took third place, in what looked like the worst possible conditions - low visibility & rain. Paul Henri de la Rue (brother of Xavier) came in 4th.
