If you’re a keen gym-goer or have just got your New Year’s resolution of getting fit underway, there's no need to miss out on your fitness sessions whilst on holiday here in Alpe d’Huez.

The Palais des Sports et des Congres (leisure centre) situated in the centre of town at the end of Avenues Les Jeux (the Main Street) by the church offers everything you need to stay in shape.

A fully equipped gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, climbing wall, indoor archery, indoor tennis courts, squash courts, table tennis, indoor five-a-side football area, group cycling suite and aerobics suite – it really has it all, even an indoor Boules court!.

The fully equipped gymnasium has free weights, resistance machines, rowing machines, treadmills and cross trainers – all with a fantastic view over the L’Eclose area of town and to the slopes beyond, and speaking as a fully trained Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer it really is a cracking gym.

The centre offers a wide variety of fitness classes everyday of the week, including:

Monday

  • 9.15am – Aqua aerobics
  • 9.45am – Pilates
  • 10.45am- Aqua bike
  • 12.50pm – Group indoor cycling
  • 5.30pm – Abs class
  • 6pm – Step aerobics
  • 6.45pm – Reggaeton (similar to Zumba)

Tuesday

  • 9.15am – Aqua aerobics
  • 9.45am – Abs class
  • 10.15am – Stretching class
  • 10.45 – Aqua aerobics
  • 6.15pm – Gym ball class
  • 7pm – Step aerobics

Wednesday

  • 9.15am – Swim training
  • 10.45am – Aqua bike
  • 12.30pm – Pilates
  • 5.30pm – Abs class
  • 6.15pm – Group indoor cycling

Thursday

  • 9.45am – Zumba
  • 10.30am – Aqua aerobics
  • 10.30am – Abs class
  • 11.15am – Stretching class
  • 12.15pm – Aqua aerobics
  • 5.30pm – Aerobics
  • 6.15pm – Step aerobics
  • 7.15pm – Stretching class

Friday

  • 10.30am – Aqua aerobics
  • 12.15pm – Aqua bike
  • 5.15pm – Pilates
  • 6pm – Zumba

Saturday

  • 6pm – Aerobics
  • 7pm – Stretching class

Sunday

  • 9.15am – Aqua bike
  • 5.30pm – Abs class
  • 6.15pm – Dance class
  • 7pm – Aqua aerobics
  • 7.15pm – Stretching class

Climbing wall and archery classes are on everyday except Saturday.

The centre really offers something for all ages and abilities, and the classes are open to all and English is spoken. Booking for classes is advisable, particularly in peak season and school holiday periods. Classes can be booked at the centre reception desk, situated in the entrance foyer.

Upcoming Events

Alpe d'Huez hosts a wide range of events throughout the year. In the winter, you can expect motor racing on ice, comedy festivals, ski races and various live music gigs. During the summer months, the focus turns to cycling with the Tour de France usually passing through town. The Megavalanche, a mass-start mountain bike race that draws thousands of MTB fans from around the world, takes place in July.
