Record snow depths for Alpe d'Huez

Deepest snow pack in over 30 years

By Greg van der Donk, Updated

A snow depth of 158cm at the base of the resort at 1860m has broken all records for January since measurements began in 1981. If the trend continues we are on track for a record-breaking winter.

Snow depth is already well over the average not only for this time of year but for the season in general. It was the heavy snow over the last week that really pushed it over the edge. As you would expect conditions on and off the piste are fantastic right now, avalanches risk is at 2/5 in the resort but is at 3/5 in the higher areas. Make sure you check the latest conditions before you head out, especially if you're heading off-piste.

The forecast is currently for sunny or partly clear weather from now through to the weekend. After this more snow is forecast at the start of next week, which is sure to help us towards the full season record!
