Le Tour de France 2016 kicked off last Saturday with stage one and the 'Grand Depart' being hosted by the stunning island community of Le Mont Saint Michel.
A good-sized crowd was in attendance for the first round of the 2019 French Long Distance Cross-Country Ski Cup in Alpe d’Huez on Sunday, January 6th.

The gnaliest race in Alpe d'huez is easliy the Megavalanche. A top to bottom, mass start downhill race with hundreds of competitiors racing from the glacier to the town.
Before the race came through the road was open to anyone who wanted to tackle the steep and demanding hill climb for themself. The town was full of cyclists and fans who had been lining the roadside for days in anticipation of the race, camped out in tents and caravans desperate for a glimpse of their heroes.
February was dominated by the Alpine Skiing World Championships, held every second year, which kicked off in St Moritz on 6th February. Over 13 days, 589 athletes from 76 countries competed in eleven competitions in front of 165,000 spectators.
Rumours about Tomorrowland coming to the Alps began to rumble in March 2017 and it soon became apparent that Alpe d’Huez was amongst the forerunners to host this epic event. The rumours became official in March 2018, and it’s been all systems go since then.
Last night the slopes of The Signal here in Alpe d’Huez were truly lit up in fantastic style by the instructors of ESF Ski School, as the huge crowd were treated to the second of three torchlight descents to coincide with the U.K and French Half Term Holidays.

Next weekend sees the 20th edition of the prestigious Pyramide d’Oz ski mountaineering race, a race that regularly forms part of the French National Cup (Coupe de France) – on a course that was used in the 2009 World Cup. Around 150 to 200 competitors are set to tackle the gruelling course.
