Find Out How Artificial Snow is Made with a Guided Tour of the Snow Factory
Although Alpe d'Huez naturally has a high snowfall every winter, it also has 900 snow cannons that spring into action when the pistes need a bit of extra snow cover - typically at the beginning and end of the season.
These cannons spray artificially created snow over the pistes, which the piste bashers then spread wherever it is needed.
Take a guided tour of one of the two snow making factories in Alpe d'Huez and find out how water and air are turned into white fluffy snowflakes.
The factory is up on the Plat des Marmottes at 2300m; the tour costs 4€ per person and you will need a lift pass to access the site.
Reservations are required and can be made at the tourist office or at the Bergers lift pass office.
