The highly anticpated Alpe d'Huez stage of the Tour de France is set to attract one million spectators and has drawn in early fans who have set up camp on the 21 bends weeks in advance.

The Tour arrives in Alpe d'Huez on the 18th of July with a stage that covers 172.5km and will feature a double ascent of Alpe d'Huez, interspersed with a dramatic descent down to La Ferriere.

Over one million spectators expected in Alpe d'Huez

The combination of the 100th anniversary of the Tour de France and the double climb of infamous 21 bends is set to draw in huge crowds, some sources claim more than a million spectators will turn up.
Already a number of camper vans have set-up home on bends number two and three, arriving three weeks in advance.
The overly keen spectators have been keeping themselves busy with some scenic hikes around Alpe d'Huez, sipping pastis and charming the occasional policeman in an attempt not to be moved on.

It is advised to arrive in Alpe d'Huez before the event and should be noted that the road between Bourg d'Oisans and Alpe d'Huez will be closed for the day between 9:00 and 20:00. The lifts of Télévillage, Poutran and DMC will be open from 8:00 to 19:00 for the day.

If you want to get access into Alpe d'Huez on the day you can drive up the road to Oz en Oisans and take the Poutran cable car up, then the Troncon down to the top of the resort.

And for those not able to make it on the day, you can catch a glimpse of the action from our resort webcams.
