After the first legs of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 ties over the last couple of weeks, attention now turns to the decisive second legs.
Back at Stamford Bridge can Chelsea overturn a 2-1 deficit to super-rich and domestically all-conquering Paris Saint German?, surely Manchester City will progress after an impressive 3-1 away to Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev, meanwhile at the Camp Nou Arsenal have a mountain to climb having lost 2-0 at home to bookmakers favourites FC Barcelona, with the Worlds greatest player, Lionel Messi, having inflicted the damage in the first leg at the Emirates.
The Champions League ties involving English clubs resume on Wednesday 9th March.
Meanwhile the UEFA Europa League reaches the last 16 phase and the tie of the round has drawn together two of the worlds biggest teams. Liverpool v Manchester United renew one of the biggest rivalries in World football, in their first ever meeting in Europe, this is a tie not to be missed. Having been to a Manchester United v Liverpool game a couple of years ago the atmosphere will no doubt be electric for theses games.
Whilst a domestically high flying Tottenham Hotspur have been drawn against Borussia Dortmund, who were previously managed by now Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Europa League round of 16 ties take place on Thursday 10th and Thursday 17th March.
There are plenty of bars to catch all the action here in Alpe d’Huez.
Down in the old town the games will be shown live (with English commentary) in both the O’Bar and L’Indiana bar – where Vicky and Chris respectively will be only too pleased to see you. Why not grab some delicious tapas or a great burger in O’Bar while your watching the game.
Meanwhile in the middle of town above the Igloo Nightclub, Smithys Tavern will be showing the games (with English commentary) on its two huge TV screens, and there's always great offers on jugs of beer in Smithys – perfect for watching the big games with, and with “Smithy” being a huge Arsenal fan let's hope that Barcelona don't give them a thrashing….
Up in the Main Street (Avenue Les Jeux) O’Sharkeys, Sphere Bar and The Freeride Bar will all be showing the games. Freeride will show the games with French commentary, and will no doubt be packed packed for the Chelsea v PSG second leg.
Across in the Les Bergers Commercial Centre the games will be shown in both Chez Leo and the Tiger Bar, again with French commentary. Chez Leo is a particular favourite of mine, and where I regularly go to try and improve my French, as nobody speaks English in there!.
