The Megavalanche is the biggest downhill event in the world for the international mountain biking community.
The Alpe d’Huez Megavalanche 2018 is going to be a mega year for the 1700 riders who are competing in this one of a kind event. For almost a week, the riders will thrash it out through the tens of thousands of metres of negative elevation on the slopes of the Grandes Rousses mountain range between the Sarenne glacier down to the village of Allemont in the valley.
The race conditions are optimal: thanks to exceptional snowfall on the slopes of the glacier, it will be 100% operational. For the qualifying heats which take place on Friday July 6th the course has been rethought to optimise thrills and enhance the chances of overtaking. The mass start on the slope is one of the main characteristics of the Megavalanche.
