Alpe d'Huez Apres Ski Report: 16th March 2009

Howdy people! I'm writing this on a glorious sunny Alpe D'Huez day on a terrace over-looking the mountains. It's a hard life living out here. Today I woke up at 11am, went snowboarding in the boiling weather, before cooling down with a swim in the outdoor pool. I know , I know, this credit crunch is a nightmare!

Anyway, on to the fun and frolics of the last week... Monday's bar crawl was spiced up by all participants being in fancy dress. DJ Sam – a legend of Smithy's and Alpe D'Huez for over 13 years, was once again in charge of getting all the dance hungry drinkers onto those dancing tables. He is now general Manager of Lounge 21 - situated adjacent to Smithy's, and offering delicious fondues, fine wines and the best choice of cocktails in the Alps (Ross, D 2009)...be sure to check it out!

Tuesday saw Still Nameless play in Sphere bar, with Gaz and Hands rocking it up down at the Underground at the same time. Meanwhile, Shaun ‘of the bed' Northey was DJing in Smithy's for their fancy dress Grannies and Grandads night dressed like something from 1945. Hilarious! All bars in resort were rammed full of football fans to witness Liverpool's thrashing of Real Madrid at Anfield, always pleasant to see an English team succeed in Europe (especially watching England beat France yesterday – the locals were quiet!)

Smithy's put on a very successful Ipod Battle on Wednesday...where contestants from around town bring the Ipods in, play a song(s) until they are booed off! Everyone in the bar had a green (for good) and a red (for not impressed!) flyer they held up to judge the contestants...and the winner walked away with a bottle of vodka. Bargain! Sphere bar has Steve B over from Deux Alps to play an après gig, while L'Etalon put on a 2 for 1 night on all flavoured rums between 10pm and 11pm... a lot of people walked out very drunk at 11.01pm!

Bluefunkt returned in front of a packed house at Smithy's on Thursday with their own unique style to a bouncing audience! Cracking night! O'Bar had a cocktail night, with deals on cocktails throughout the evening , and after a long absence El returned to O'Sharkey's for an acoustic session while DJ DKAT played a banging Drum ‘n' Bass set in nightclub Igloo from 2am-5am...

MC King Comport teamed up with ‘Plymouth's answer to Westwood' DJ Northey in Smithy's on Friday evening. Friday's used to be traditionally quiet around town, with it being transfer day the following day for a lot of staff, but not this season! It turned out to be a massive night! Lounge 21 were also very busy as a result of Hip Hop DJ DJ Smithy...

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is a green day in the Alps, with it being St.Patricks Day... Get your Guinness goggles on! Dr.Bruce return to Smithy's on Thursday, and Wednesday has John,Jez and Morse rocking up Sphere again...

For those of you who don't know, BUSC (The British Universities Snow Council) is bringing around 3000...yes, three thousand students to Alpe D'Huez for the first time in 2 weeks time. Resort is going to be absolutely heaving! So those wanting a quieter beer around town make the most of the next week or 2...otherwise you will be over-run will 18-24 year olds dressed in ridiculous outfits, eating food from the floor and drinking beer through funnels.... BRING IT ON!

The sun is out, Spring is upon us... time is ticking away, so enjoy the snow conditions, and it would most certainly be rude not to have a beer (or 10) afterwards...

Love, peace and hair grease, DR10 xxx
