Alpe d'Huez Apres Ski Report: 24th January 2009

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! And boy has it snowed! Walking home after work last night I was not expecting to wake up to the best snow fall of the season to date.... so come on! To match the snow this week has picked up again on the après scene. It's been a busier week, the moods been happy and relaxed, and the drinks have been flowing...

Albenaza completed their hugely successful Alpe D'Huez tour with a superb gig in the Underground on Sunday evening to kick off the week. They are soon making a name for themselves and the rest of the Alps gain as they head off to continue their mountain tour is certainly Alpe D'Huez's loss. Good luck boys!

Sunday was also the start of the National Comedy Festival in Alpe D'Huez with various French film stars travelling up the 21 bends and into, among other places, the Palais des Sports to put on what has been a fantastic and fun filled week!

Monday saw Ell playing live après at O'Sharkey's, before the now legendary International bar crawl frenzy trekked around the snow filled roads of resort on nothing but a drinking mission around the bars before ending up in Smithy's and the party tunes of DJ Sam.

Wine tasting in the comfortable surroundings of Lounge 21 kicked off Tuesday evening, while up in Sphere 'Still Nameless' - John, Jez and Morse were smashing out their fanatsic acoustic rock tunes while drinking a cheeky whisky or 2 (yes boys, we all know you play better after a bottle of whisky each!). Deux Alps après reporter, Vicky left the valley and ventured over to our island in the sun for the evening, and was one of the many people packed into Smithy's to see the 3 time world DMC Scratch champion DJ Netick totally take the bar apart! I thought he couldn't get any better after last season but the man is unbelievable! What a night! No drinking for Vicks as she had to be up bright and early on Wednesday morning with Sam and Smithy's boys for first lifts. Good attitude!

Torchey Harbour were playing in Underground on Wednesday, the legendary old times J Band played their first gig in resort of the winter in Zoo bar, and the Beau Soleil hotel took 40 people on a pub golf crawl around 9 of Alpe D'Huez's finest bars, downing a pre-determined beverage as quickly as possible before making it down on their scorecard. There was some hideously drunken golfers lingering around at the end, and was a truly funny sight! Took me back to my uni days..... Oh how I miss those nights and getting up at 9am for a morning lectures on Marketing!

Thursday saw the return after a 2 week absence of Bluefunkt in Smithy's, and also the legend that is DJ DKAT was dropping in his drum and bass classics in the Igloo nightclub until the early hours of the morning...

Next week sees Still Nameless making their Smithy's debut on Sunday evening, who also have Dr Bruce playing on Thursday. 500 scandies are rocking into town so it should be an even bigger week... I'm up for it, so should you be, bring it on and GET UP THE MOUNTAIN!!!
