World Record Attempt in Alpe d'Huez for World's largest Potato Gratin
Alpe d'Huez are gunning for the world record in producing the World's largest...Gratin Dauphinois, all in aid of charity. (Presumably this means someone has already set the gold standard in making vast Tartiflettes...)
The enormous potato dish is being produced to raise money for children's charity ELA, will involve a cardiac-arresting 300 Litres of cream, 3 tonnes of potatoes and a staggering 5 Kilos of Garlic. SATA, who look after the technical operation of the chairlifts in resort, have supported the effort by making a giant metal dish for the Gratin which will be moved into position by a fork lift truck tomorrow (Thursday).
The event is being organised to raise money for French charity ‘ Association ELA' who support children with rare illnesses and which retired French footballer Zinedine Zidaine (a personal favourite of mine) is the patron. If you fancy sampling the delights of what promises to be the world's largest Gratin all in aid of a good cause and with entertainment to boot, get yourself down to join the festivities on the Avenue des Jeux in Alpe d'Huez on Friday (29th)evening at 19h30 or on Sunday (31st) at 11h00 at the Taburle Restaurant.
