Alpe D'Huez is in good mid February form, with the high slopes above 2700 metres holding excellent cover and the village buzzing with half term visitors. The Sarenne side looks particularly impressive at the moment, with broad white pistes stretching down the mountain and plenty of depth across the domain. The season feels well established now, and despite busy lifts at peak times, the mountain is skiing comfortably and consistently.
Snow and Weather Summary
Current snow depths are around 95 to 110 cm in resort at 1860 metres, with approximately 200 to 240 cm reported on the upper slopes around Pic Blanc at 3300 metres. Over the past week the resort has picked up around 10 to 20 cm of fresh snow, with slightly higher totals on the highest terrain.
Temperatures at 3000 metres have generally ranged between minus 11 and minus 5 degrees, while in resort daytime highs have been between minus 3 and plus 2 degrees. The freezing level has fluctuated between 1500 and 1900 metres, dipping lower overnight and helping to preserve the base. Winds have been light to moderate, occasionally stronger along the ridge lines but with minimal disruption to lift operations.
On piste the snow is firm and well prepared first thing, particularly on the higher runs off Marmottes and towards the glacier where surfaces remain cold and grippy. The long descent of Sarenne is in good condition, especially in the morning before it softens slightly in the afternoon sun. Lower slopes towards Huez and Villard Reculas can become a little softer later in the day, but coverage remains solid and continuous.
