Alpe d'Huez is looking bright and properly wintry this week, with its south facing slopes still holding good coverage thanks to a solid base built up over the season. The higher terrain around Pic Blanc and the glacier is particularly well covered, and the views across the Oisans remain as impressive as ever. Despite the busy holiday period, the mountain still feels expansive once you move away from the main fronts, and conditions overall feel dependable for late February.
Snow and Weather Summary
Current snow depths are around 75 to 95 cm at resort level at 1860 metres, with between 170 and 230 cm reported on the upper slopes above 2700 metres, including the glacier sector. A light fall of around 5 cm has been recorded at altitude over recent days, giving a subtle refresh to exposed runs. The base remains well established across the domain.
Temperatures have ranged from minus 9 to minus 5 degrees on the upper mountain, while in resort daytime highs have reached between minus 2 and plus 4 degrees depending on sunshine. The freezing level has generally hovered between 1600 and 1900 metres, dropping overnight and allowing pistes to refreeze effectively. Winds have been mostly light to moderate, occasionally stronger near Pic Blanc but without major impact on operations.
On piste conditions are very good higher up, where snow remains firm and grippy throughout much of the day. The long runs from Pic Blanc are skiing particularly well, with strong coverage and consistent surfaces. Mid mountain slopes are best enjoyed earlier in the day before sunnier aspects soften. Lower runs back to resort remain open and well maintained, though they can become slightly heavier in the afternoon if temperatures rise. Overall coverage is solid for the time of year.
