Christmas week has arrived in Alpe d’Huez and the resort is feeling properly settled into winter. The mountains above the village are well covered and there is a steady flow of skiers enjoying the slopes in crisp, cold conditions. Mornings have been bright and sharp, with the high bowl and glacier areas looking particularly inviting. It feels like the season has found its rhythm just in time for the festive break.
Snow and Weather Summary
Snow depths across Alpe d’Huez remain strongest at altitude, with around 140 to 160 centimetres reported on the upper slopes and glacier areas, while village level is sitting closer to 40 to 60 centimetres. Recent snowfall earlier in the week helped refresh the pistes and build a more consistent base, especially above 2,000 metres. Temperatures have stayed cold overnight, often well below freezing on the mountain, which has kept snow quality good and pistes firm in the mornings. Daytime temperatures have been hovering just below or around zero at altitude, rising slightly lower down, which means lower runs can soften later in the day. The freezing level has remained comfortably below the main ski area for most of the week, and winds have generally been light, allowing lifts to operate smoothly and keeping conditions pleasant on exposed ridges.
