Motorbike accident on 21 bends up to Alpe d'Huez

A motorcyclist was injured in a serious collision with an oncoming car between bends 15 and 16 of the road up to Alpe d'Huez.

The accident happened shortly after 2pm yesterday (Monday) afternoon. The road was quickly closed off to allow emergency services to intervene.

The 32 year old driver of the motorbike had badly injured his left leg and was treated on the scene by paramedics, one of which was helicoptered in, before being transferred to hospital.

The police are now carrying out an investigation into the accident, but early reports seem to suggest that the motorcyclist was travelling on the left hand side of the road and hit the car head on.
