The prefecture of Isere and the Haute-Alpes released new information to say that the current rate of the slide is now around 6 metres per day.

Police have been put on alert as "the average travel speeds are now higher than those recorded during the previous crisis, the 4th and 5th of July."

On Sunday night yet more activity was seen as the two plates that sit under the mountain separated and have now left a vertical fracture. Geologists are saying that around 400,000 cubic metres of rock fell in one recent episode.

It is unclear what this acceleration means in terms of timing for the mountain falling, but for now extra vigilance should be take in the area.
