Happy Independence Day! We may not have 4th July fireworks but we do have Crankworx!! The Crankworx Mountain Bike festival starts this Saturday in Les Deux Alpes and there's the Kumi Yama and 3VTT too.
The Crankworx Mountain Bike Festival enters it's second year in Les Deux Alpes. There will be races and competitions from the 6th - 14th July. You can find out more about the festival in our Les Deux Alpes Events Calendar and more about Mountain Biking in Les Deux Alpes on the MTB page.
Over the same weekend in 2Alpes there's the Kumi Yama ski and snowboard feestyle event on the Glacier 3200. Les Deux Alpes has one of the best summer parks in Europe and you can find out more about Glacier Skiing here on www.see2alpes.com.
For a more sedate mountain bike experience the 3VTT - the Trois Vallees mountain bike festival - takes place on Saturday and Sunday and you can find out more about that in our Events Calendar for Meribel.

Temperatures have been dropping sharply over the last few weeks and we are now getting close to a winter climate here in the Alps.
London's Metro Ski and Snowboard Show marks the start of the winter season and this year's extravaganza is no exception. You'll see the familiar faces of winters past and can make the most of the experts on hand to advise you on anything snow-related: from which chalet to choose; kids facilities in various resorts and of course... where to get the best snow!

Winter is coming. There is no denying it. Temperatures have dropped, days have become shorter and Christmas decorations are ALREADY in the supermarkets!
Alpe d'huez is, as ever, popular with cyclists wanting to tackle the legendary "21 bends" and Les Deux Alpes has unprecedented levels of snow on it's glacier.

Snow conditions are holding steady again this week, with only a few centimetres of additional snow having fallen, the skiing is still pretty good.
Winter starts this weekend in London with the annual Ski and Snowboard Show. This year the show is back in its old venue of Earl's Court and, as usual, there is plenty to do. To help you make the most of the show we went ahead and came up with a list of our top five attractions for this year.
2017 certainly arrived with a bang here in Alpe d’Huez with a huge outdoor party at the leisure centre in the middle of resort. Although this is an annual event, it was, in fact, the first time in ten years that I've managed to go. This year with nothing particularly planned we decided to head up and see what it was all about.
Discover the 18 winding turns from Les lacets de Montvernier which connects to Montvernier Pomtamafrey. This course will be taken by the 2015 Tour de France during stage 18 - Gap - Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne July 23rd.
If you've tackled every piste in the Alpe d'Huez ski area, why not fly over to neighbouring 2 Alpes in a helicopter for a day trip. It costs 70 euros per person return, setting off from the altiport every Wedsnesday, Thursday & Friday.
It's been lovely and sunny here this week. Try heading over to Auris to escape the crowds and lift queues.
Despite the sun, the pistes are open and in great condition....

Ollie & Neil have been enjoying a very sunny week this week. There's been no fresh snow since the 26th December but the pistes are in great condition, and the Sarenne too, thanks to its new snow canons.
The pistes are in great condition and although they are not all open the mountain is so quiet that it doesn't matter.
As we haven't had any new snow I decided to fly over the patches in the snow that have been appearing.
Spring is definitely upon us and the sun is shining and affecting the slopes. We have hard pistes in the morning and soft and slushy snow in the afternoon.
Paul Garner and his other 2 amigos have been having a great time in Alpe d'Huez.. sunshine, beautiful views from the Sarenne, dancing on tables, swigging champagne, speedo swimming in the heated outdoor pool.. when are you coming over to join in the fun?? (Speedos not essential!)
Its very windy and cloudy today and Gareth and his friends have been using the great facilitys in the local sports centre. Fortunatly we are blessed with sunshine next week and a few more chances to hit the hill before it all melts away.
Gareth is at the top of the signal enjoying the great sunshine and awesome conditions on the piste. With a fresh 20cm of snow the off piste is looking great. Next week its lots of sunshine and low winds which is fantastic news.This week Alpe d'Huez is hosting the European Ski cross cup and Gareth is going to be bringing you all the action in next weeks report.
It's been a good week here in Alp d'huez and the snow has been falling giving us fresh powder and great conditions on piste. We've been enjoying the skiercross this week which has been a source of high speed entertainment.
With the warm weather melting the snow the decision has been made to close the ski area in Alpe d'huez early this year. The resort will now shut on the 24th April.
It's been cold and clear in the Southern Alps this week but we are expecting clouds and snowfall this Thursday and over the weekend.

More snow is on the way.. forecasts predict some of the white stuff will be hitting us on Thursday & Friday this week, and if the longer range forecast is to be believed it might even be snowing on Christmas day!
The month long run of clear skies came to and end this week when the snow clouds moved back in. They didn't bring a huge snowfall but they topped up the pistes nicely.
High winds have been a problem this week, closing the higher lifts. Down low the pistes are starting to deteriorate quickly but hopefully some new snow will freshen things up.
Growing old is inevitable, growing up on the other hand.. Philippe and his fellow Frenchies look like they've had a great week in Alpe d'Huez this week.. not sure what all the 'Dark Vador' and Star Wars references are about mind..
There has been some consistent sunshine this week in Alpe d'huez but the clouds moved in today and although the weekend is supposed to be sunny the snow is set to return on Tuesday night when 10cm is forecast to fall.
We have another week of sunshine and light winds and the pistes are still holding out fine. Bring on the spring snow!

There is tons of snow in Alpe d'huez at the moment and the resort has some great snow depths. There's a little more snow on the way this weekend and the Rip Curl Alive and Kickin' this Sunday.
We have had a mix of weather conditions recently but the snow is in very good condition, at least on piste. Off piste there is still a few rocks poking through the snow.

We have had a great week in Alp d'huez with excellent snow conditions thanks to a large dump that came down at the end of last week.
With the holidays in full swing it has become a lot busier here in Alpe d'huez but heading to the surrounding villages is usually a good way to avoid the crowds.
Its a cloudy day in Alpe d'Huez and Gareth is saving himself for tommorow when we can expect a full day of sunshine and fresh powder. We have a bit of a cloudy week coming up but its not all bad news as there's still more snow coming on Saturday and sunshine on Sunday.
Well we still haven't had any new snow but the sun is still shining and in places the pistes are running smoothly with a soft top layer of snow. Apres ski is now in full swing in Alpe d'huez and we've been enjoying a few beers with live music this week.

We have had a great week here in ALpe d'Huez, lots of sunshine and blue sky's.Still great snow coverage around the mountain and all 88 lifts are open. The weather this week, in Alpe d'huez, has been very cloudy with slushy pistes. We have had some fresh snow up high but the lower runs have been heavy and increasingly bare. Gay Ski Week has been going off this week in Alpe d'huez with lots of parties across town.

The lifts in Alp d'Huez open this weekend and as you can see there has been plenty of snow falling in the Southern Alps.The town is still pretty quiet and we are looking forward to the influx of holiday makers and seasonal worker to liven the place up a little bit as all the bars are open but not yet full.
Although we haven't had any new snow the pistes are still in good condition and there's plenty of live music in resort as well as football, ice skating and paragliding.
With plenty of fresh snow, low temperatures and sunshine this has been my best week of the season so far. Fingers crossed there are more like it.
Skiing and Snowboarding in Alpe d'huez have taken a bit of a back seat this week as the weather has been so good that sunbathing in the afternoon and swimming in the pool have become the popular pastimes.
We have had some crazy parties here in Alp d'huez over New Year; rock stars in the Underground and live music and theme parties everywhere else made for a welcome introduction to 2011.

A grey / whiteout week this week, but that means plenty of snow and it's falling all the way down to Bourg d'Oisans.
Firm in the morning and getting slushy later in the day, but glorious sunshine makes it a fine day on the slopes.
The #Sataski pisteurs are doing a good job keeping conditions great on piste, and although we could do with a bit more snow there's plenty open to keep you entertained.
Don't forget to pack your suncream as the Island of the sun that is Alpe d'Huez lives up to its name!

With 134 pistes covering an incredible length of 250km, 50km of Nordic trails and 40km of walking trails to keep in tip top condition – the nightly work undertaken by the “pisteurs” of Sataski really is something to behold.

We've had another week of mixed weather with clouds and snowfall and clear skies and sun shine. The pistes are in good condition and "The Tunnel" is now open and living up to it's reputation as a challenging run.
New Years Eve celebrations certainly got underway with a bang here in Alpe d’Huez, albeit in somewhat tricky visibility. Celebrations got underway at Les Bergers at just after 5.30pm with a torchlight descent by the ski instructors of ESF Ski School, with hundreds of blue, white and red torches forming a fantastic French tricolour, a truly wonderful sight.
Conditions on piste are being kept up by snow ploughing snow from the sides into the middle, so from the Pic Blanc down to resort level you can still ski some lovely pistes.
If you thought that floodlit skiing was solely for the superstars of the FIS Ski World Cup, then think again, it’s going on right here in Alpe d’Huez.

Every year, when the lifts open, I rush excitedly to the top of the hill, strap into my board and set off for the first run of the new season. The cold, clear air in my nose and the sun on my cheeks I can't keep the smile off my face as the fresh snow creaks under my board. The whole day lies ahead from first lifts to last call. Or it would if I wasn't sweating, panting and massaging the cramp out of my calves at the end of the first run.

Whenever I tell people back in the UK that I live in Alpe d’Huez during the winter, they immediately have 3 things in mind relating to this truly magical resort – invariably the “Tour de France” comes up, normally followed by “that really long black run” (the Sarenne of course) – and after that comes up the subject of the legendary “scare chair”.

It's been another sunny day in Alpe d'Huez today. Pretty much all the ski area is now open and we've got more snow coming our way over the weekend.
The famous torchlight descents by the fabulous ski instructors of ESF ski school are always one of the highlights on the events calendar here in Alpe d’Huez and last Wednesday was no exception.
