Alpe d’Huez is looking properly wintery after a significant spell of snowfall that has refreshed the whole mountain. The high plateau and surrounding slopes are bright and white, while the views across the Grandes Rousses feel more dramatic and alpine than they did earlier in the season. There is a settled, mid winter feel around the resort now, and conditions on the mountain feel magical without being unpredictable, with a good depth of snow everywhere you look.
Snow and Weather Summary
Snow depths are now around 190 to 210cm on the upper mountain, with approximately 90 to 110cm in resort. The recent snowfall brought between 50 and 80cm across the area since last Thursday, with the biggest accumulations above 2200m and some wind redistribution on exposed ridges. This snowfall has significantly improved coverage across the whole ski area, with strong skiing conditions on most pistes at all elevations and soft, supportive snow underfoot. Daytime temperatures at altitude have been ranging between -8 and -4 degrees Celsius, with the freezing level close to 1300m, helping to preserve snow quality. Winds were strong during the snowfall but have now eased, allowing lift operations to run smoothly. Despite the excellent conditions, the volume and intensity of recent snowfall have resulted in very high avalanche risk, particularly in off piste and uncontrolled terrain where the snowpack remains unstable.
