1. Smithy's Tavern Restaurant

Smithy’s Tavern is a lively dinner spot offering a mix of Tex-Mex favourites, grilled meats and generous desserts, perfect for a satisfying evening meal. Freshly made burgers are a highlight, with vegetarian options and all the classic trimmings to suit every taste. The vibrant atmosphere is enhanced by live music and DJ sets throughout the season, making it a fun and energetic place to enjoy great food, drinks and entertainment with friends or family in the heart of the resort.

Right in the centre of resort on Rue du Coulet, Smithy’s Tavern is a lively, British-run restaurant and bar that’s as popular with families as it is with seasonnaires. It’s well known for its freshly prepared burgers served every evening, with toppings ranging from classic cheese to the legendary “Fat Boy” – a towering triple stack with hash browns, onion rings, bacon and a fried egg. Veggie-friendly starters include nachos, potato wedges and Cajun mushrooms, whilst vegetarian main courses feature sweet potato and spinach quesadillas, tofu and vegetable fajitas, 'build your own' tofu and vegetable burritos and spicy been burger; you can even tickle your taste buds with homemade vegetable chilli – there really is plenty of choice.

You can choose from chunky hand-cut, skinny or sweet potato fries and the menu also includes Tex-Mex favourites, grilled meats and generous desserts. It’s a great spot for a fun evening out, with live DJs and bands on most Thursdays and a buzzing après-style atmosphere. 

Smithy’s is one of the most popular places to eat in town so booking ahead is a smart idea.

L'Empreinte Restaurant, Alpe d'Huez

2. L'Empreinte Restaurant

A popular, small restaurant offering modern French and international cuisine. With seating for only 27 covers, you'll want to book your table well in advance.

At this restaurant the 'menu du moment' changes regularly and offers a small selection of carefully curated dishes. You can check on the website for the current menu when you book.

The friendly team will give you a warm welcome and be on hand throughout.

Children are welcome, but there are no specific children's menus and a minimum spend is required. Maximum two children per group. 

Open everyday from 18:30 to 21:30, and available by booking only online or by phone.

La Cremaillere Restaurant, Alpe d'Huez interior

3. La Cremaillere Restaurant

Just on the outskirts of the centre of Alpe d'Huez this restaurant has traditional charm, with a wood fired oven and seating for up to about 40 people.

Down in the old town, La Cremaillere offers good fondues and is ideally located if you're staying around the tourist office. It’s a lovely timber-clad, typically alpine restaurant with a varied menu. Most of the fondues are served with meat, but there is also a nice range of veggie options including a vegetable tartiflette, herb-stuffed ravioli, vegetarian raclette and fondue, and a cracking green salad. It’s usually busy which is always a good sign.

Traditional French and Alpine food, salads and a terrace make this a beautiful spot for dinner. The downstairs dining area offers a cosy retreat and is perfect for a big group or couples.

Au Grenier Restaurant, Alpe d'Huez interior

4. Au Grenier Restaurant

A reasonably priced restaurant serving typical French dishes with specialities such as Cassolette de St Jacques (scallop casserole) and medallion of veal with Beaufort cheese. Also offers a popular vegan wok dish consisting of vegetables, quinoa, rice and tofu.

Situated in the centre of the resort the restaurant is easily accessible on foot and is located on Avenue de Brandes.

Open all year round from 12:00 to 14:30 and from 19:00 to 21:30.

5. A l'Esperance des Grandes Rousses Restaurant

Situated within the Grandes Rousses Hotel & Spa in Alpe d’Huez, L'Espérance offers a warm and inviting dining experience centred on sharing and authenticity. 

With the convivial spirit of a bistro, it serves comforting yet refined dishes in an elegant but relaxed setting. Signature creations highlight the richness of French terroir, crafted with a modern touch. For vegetarians, it offers top-notch vegetarian gnocchi and ravioli.

For a unique experience, guests can dine on the terrace, where private "bubbles" provide an intimate setting for a cosy dinner under the stars.

The name L'Espérance honours the hotel’s deep family roots, recalling the first café opened in 1902 by Joseph Colomb in the village of Huez. This legacy lives on in a space designed for gathering, sharing, and creating lasting memories.

6. Au Montagnard Restaurant

Tasty traditional mountain specialities in the heart of Alpe d'Huez. They have a children's menu and can seat 40 people inside with space for 30 on the sun terrace.

On the large menu there is plenty of choice with something for everyone, including a few vegetarian options - try their pierrade, fondues, raclettes, gratins,grilled meats, salads, soups or order their set menu.

You'll appreciate the friendly and quick service. The team will give you a warm welcome and look after you throughout your meal.
